Harassment caught on video results to arrest

SPRINGVILLE – A Springville man was arrested Sunday after Lawrence County Central Dispatch received a call from the 1000 block of Steve Earl Road.

The caller reported that 44-year-old Brandon Godsey was driving erratically and harassing the residents. The caller told police there was an active protective order in place against Godsey.

Godsey was not at his home, but the deputy committed to making extra patrols in the area.

Officers then responded to the home a second time after another report of Godsey driving erratically and harassing the caller. While the deputy was there, Godsey gradually slowed his vehicle and passed the deputy and the resident.

In Godsey’s statement to the deputy he admitted to speeding by the caller’s home and to slowing down.

The deputy completed a report and forwarded it to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office.

The officer continued to make extra patrols in the area and observed Godsey in the driver’s seat of his vehicle with the driver’s window down parked at the roundabout of Steve Earl Road.

As the deputy passed Godsey, he turned his vehicle around and drove away from the caller’s home.

The officer followed Godsey, who drove to State Road 54 West, and was unable to observe any erratic driving behavior.

Police were once more called to the home in regards to Godsey’s erratic behavior and driving erratically by the caller’s home.

This time the caller had video of the incident showing Godsey speeding by the home so fast it caused the back end of his vehicle to sway and launch rocks and other roadway debris onto the caller’s property. In total the caller obtained eight videos of Godsey speeding past the home.

Another neighbor also told the deputy about Godsey’s erratic behavior and said they did not feel safe outside of their home.

Police say Godsey’s “behavior intended to harass and alarm other residents in the neighborhood of Steve Earl Road”.

The deputy returned to Godsey’s home and ordered him to put his hands behind his back. Godsey refused three times to cooperate. After a brief struggle, Godsey was detained. Godsey continued to cooperate and refused to stand. Deputies pulled him from the floor.

Godsey continued to voluntarily speak where he admitted twice that he broke the callers droned and violated the protective order.

Godsey was arrested on charges of invasion of privacy and resisting arrest.
