Bruce Girdler promoted to Correctional Lieutenant at the Rockville Correctional Facility

ROCKVILLE – Rockville Correctional Facility (RCF) Deputy Warden of Operations Stacey Milner is pleased to announce the promotion of Sergeant Bruce Girdler to the rank of Correctional Lieutenant. 

A Rockville, Indiana native, Bruce Girdler is no stranger to public service.  He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, which gave him the opportunity to serve in several high-profile capacities at Pearl Harbor. After completing his active-duty service, Bruce first joined the U.S. Army Indiana National Guard, then the U.S. Navy National Guard.

Lieutenant Girdler began his Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) journey as a correctional officer at the Indiana State Farm at Putnamville in March 1998, eventually transferring to RCF in December of that year. Throughout his years of service in the IDOC, Bruce has been a member of RCF’s Honor Guard; he’s been an adjunct instructor in several career development disciplines; he is a member of RCF’s Promoting Positive Correctional Culture (PPCC) Committee; he graduated from the IDOC Commissioner’s Leadership Program; he has assisted with the IDOC Strategic Planning Committee, and is currently the Assistant Team Leader of IDOC’s Central SITCON Team. The Situation Control Team (SITCON) is a specially trained facility team that is activated during emergencies to conduct negotiations.

In his off-time Bruce continues his public service by being heavily involved with local 4-H activities, even having been the Livestock Leader for many years. Since 2006, he has been a volunteer firefighter and medical first responder for the Marshall, Indiana Fire and Rescue Department. 

In announcing this promotion Deputy Warden Milner commented, “Lieutenant Girdler is well positioned to face the many challenges that come with this new role.  I am confident he will not only meet but will exceed those challenges.”
