Obituary: Joseph Leslie Beyers

January 22, 1947 – September 25, 2022

Joseph Leslie Beyers, 75, passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2022, at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor.

Joe, affectionately known to family members as ‘Pather’, was born on January 22, 1947, in Bedford, IN. He graduated from Shawswick High School in 1965, after which he served in the Navy as a submariner and then in the Army National Guard (second lieutenant).

For most of his working life, he was employed at the General Motors Casting Operations Plant in Bedford, retiring after 31 years in 2006.

On May 16, 1970, Joe and Brenda Fields were united in marriage at Southland Church of Christ. They lived in Bedford where they raised one daughter and three sons: Kristine Denise, William Joseph Lee, David Brandon, and Stephen Wyatt.

An unassuming man who loved home, Joe also enjoyed traveling and visiting new places — whether Marble Arch in London or a new restaurant one county over. He was quiet and thoughtful, and easily gave others the benefit of the doubt, always seeing the best in people. He loved animals, and they loved him.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Beyers and Aileen Schreiber; by two sisters, Leah Beyers and Sue Wildman; and by his son, David. Joe is survived by his brother, Daniel; his sister, Blossom (Danny) Weddle; Brenda, his beloved wife of 52 years; his daughter Kristine (Craig) Hanson; his son Joey Beyers; and his son Stephen (Alicia) Beyers. His grandchildren include Charlotte, Cadence, Gavin, Aidan, Harrison, Anderson, and Elodie. He also is survived by his much-loved daughter-in-law, Junko (Thomas) Oliver, and their two children, Billy Brandon and Amelia, along with many dear nieces and nephews.
