Lawrence County Commissioner approves seeking to contract with IU Lifeline ambulance service

BEDFORD – The Lawrence County Commissioners Tuesday morning approved looking into approving a one-year contract with IU Lifeline ambulance service.

The contract is for $400,000. The contract will go into effect on January 1, 2023. The ambulance service will provide one advanced life support ambulance, two basic life support ambulances, and one advanced life support squad.

The county sought three bids but only two ambulance services submitted bids. The 911 board recommended the commissioners approve the contract with the IU Lifeline ambulance service.

“We have been working on this for a very long time, but we hit roadblocks along the way,” said Emergency Management Director Valerie Luchauer. “We will have Shawswick starting their ambulance service, ” “and there might be some others who will provide mutual aid if needed.”

Shawswick Fire Territory will begin its ambulance service on January 1, 2023.

The commissioners voted to give Luchauer permission to negotiate the contract and then present it to the 911 Board for recommendation and then present the final contract to the commissioners for approval.
