Councilmember Jon Broglin brought to the attention of the council that select parts of town have street lights that are either out or lightly dimmed, causing some roadways to have little to no light during the night. Saying that upgrading the lights could potentially cut the cost for the town by one-third by switching to LED lights.

One thing that would delay getting the lights fixed is determining which light poles are owned by the town, or by Duke Energy. Councilmember John Dillon commented that the poles could all possibly be owned by Duke Energy.

The next steps for the project would be to go by each of the 102 light poles in town, to help determine which ones need fixing, what number is attributed to each light pole, and the location of the light pole. Once this information is gathered, it can be documented and shared with Duke Energy, so in future issues, the lights could be quickly identified and taken care of.

The council will begin the process of gathering the information needed to then determine the cost of the project before moving forward.
