Orleans firefighters say the time is now to think about fire prevention

ORLEANS – October is National Fire Prevention month, Sunday, October 9 – Saturday, October 15.

The Orleans Fire Department has started to prep and stock up for different events to forward the opportunity and responsibility to spread the word about Fire Prevention.

NFPA announces “Fire Won't Wait. Plan Your Escape™” as theme for Fire Prevention Week, October 9-15, 2022

Firefighters will begin with the Fall Fun Fest on Congress Square on October 8th with its annual Corn Hole tournament, and walking tacos. Fire Chief Ronald Roach will be out in the crowd talking with families about the importance of Fire Safety and he might even have some special things to give the children.

On October 25, members of the Orleans Fire Department will be presenting their Fire Prevention program to the children at Orleans Elementary School. During this program, children will witness first-hand what a firefighter looks like in all of their gear. They will also learn about fire safety plans, and how to determine if there is a fire behind their door. Firefighters will discuss things like having two ways out of every room, and the number to call for help.

Firefighters will be at the firehouse handing out candy and other goodies during the town-wide Halloween event. Please stop by and meet your local firefighters, and maybe even meet Sparky the fire dog. The firehouse is directly behind the Orleans Townhall at 161 East Price Avenue.

If you, your family, church group, or even business would like more information about Fire Prevention and safety, please contact the Orleans Fire Department at 812-865-2887, to set a time for a program.

Orleans Fire Department has a driving passion to keep everyone in the community informed and safe.
