A buggy accident leaves a woman injured and a Washington man behind bars

DAVIESS CO. – A Montgomery woman was injured and a Washington man was arrested following a car-buggy accident west of Montgomery on Monday.

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Department received a report of the crash at 5771 East County Road 100 North, around 8 a.m. just east of County Road 575 East.

Deputies say a cart pulled by a pony was struck in the rear by a vehicle traveling east on the county road. After the collision, the vehicle fled the scene.

Deputies spent the day investigating the crash and looking for the driver of the car.

Just over seven hours later, police arrested 30-year-old Gabrielle Duglosz-Matteson, of Washington, on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury. She is being held without bond in the Daviess County Security Center.

The driver of the horse and cart 59-year-old Norma Jean Knepp, of Montgomery suffered a compound leg fracture and was transported to Daviess Community Hospital for treatment.

Deputies say the pony was not injured.
