ISP Trooper investigates fatal motorcycle crash on I-465

INDIANAPOLIS – A single-vehicle motorcycle crash claimed a man’s life Saturday afternoon on the west side of Indianapolis.

Saturday, at 5:15 p.m. Indiana State Police Dispatchers, began receiving emergency calls about a serious crash involving a motorcycle on the I-465 northbound ramp to Rockville Road.

When Trooper Daryl Smith arrived he found a man unconscious and unresponsive along the side of the ramp. Trooper Smith rendered emergency aid to the man until Wayne Township Paramedics arrived, despite life-saving efforts the man was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

Preliminary investigation determined the man was riding a motorcycle on I-465 northbound and attempting to exit at Rockville Road. The rider failed to navigate the curve of the ramp and ran off the road and struck a sign. The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet.  There were no other vehicles involved in the crash and no other injuries. 

The motorcyclist was from out of town, his identity is being withheld at this time to allow time for proper notification to family members.

The ramp to Rockville Road was closed for approximately two hours while the crash was investigated. The Marion County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and is assisting with the investigation. 

The Indiana State Police was also assisted by the Wayne Township Fire Department, INDOT Hoosier Helpers, and BP Final Notice Tow Service.
