Obituary: Nina Ruth Hawkins,Tyree, Brown

June 17, 1928 – September 8, 2022

Nina Ruth (Hawkins, Tyree, Brown) was born on June 17, 1928, at Knob Creek Lawrence County to Grover Spencer Hawkins and Pearl Deckard Hawkins. Nina Ruth passed peacefully at her home in Bedford on September 8, 2022, and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Nina Ruth was the last of her 10 siblings. She married George Alexander Tyree on April 5, 1947, and together they raised 6 children. Her husband preceded her in death on February 24, 1975. She also lost 2 children to accidents; Janet Sue Tyree in 1971 and Billy Tyree in 1978. Ruth married Russell Brown in 1984 and he also passed on February 5, 2002.

Preceding her in death are siblings Opal, Olin, Oscar, Oliver, Robert, Oma Hawkins, Otha Eads, Ona Butcher, Oneida Starr Elkins, and sister Olie Hawkins in infancy. A special niece Rosemary Robertson and Nephew Jerry W. Starr preceded her also.

Survivors include her children Linda L. Tyree Courson (Dr. R.C. Courson Jr), John L. Tyree, Steve Tyree (Sandy Rider) of Bedford, and Bob Tyree (Teresa) of Florida, 6 grandchildren, several great0grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Ruth was a friend to all who knew her and she loved her family dearly who was with her when she passed. Ruth professed her faith in her Lord Jesus Christ on August 19, 2012, when she was Baptized with her son John L.Tyree. Ruth loved to garden and enjoy God’s Creation; especially feeding the birds and cardinals. She was an avid IU Basketball and Bobby Knight supporter.

The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to Dr. Luke Mosemann and Hoosier Uplands Hospice for their care. A special thanks to Lee Vanscoy for music, Christy Vanscoy for her care of Ruth, and a special thanks to Sandy Rider for her kindness and compassion shown to Ruth and for always being at her side these past 9 months.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13th at Day and Carter Mortuary with Dr. R.C. Courson officiating. Burial will follow at Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of
service on Tuesday, September 13th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
