Two were arrested after lying to police about identity and after police find marijuana

BEDFORD – Two people were arrested after a Bedford Police officer stopped the vehicle they were in on Rimrock Road.

The vehicle had only one functioning brake light.

As the officer approached the vehicle, the driver’s hands were shaking and he was sweating profusely.

The driver told police he had no driver’s license or registration, however, his passenger 22-year-old Jasmine Goins did have a license.

Jasmine Goins

The officer requested Goins’ license.

The driver identified himself as Zion Williams.

When officers asked Williams why he was nervous, he told officers he was nervous because he didn’t have a driver’s license.

Officers were unable to find information for a Zion Williams in the data base.

Goins also told officers the male’s name was Zion Williams.

The officer took a photo of Williams in an attempt to identify him through the Indiana Intelligence Fusion Center.

In the meantime, officers continued to question Williams and Goins, both gave conflicting stories to officers.

During a search of the vehicle, police found marijuana in the trunk of the vehicle. Marijuana was also found in Goins’ purse which was on the vehicle’s back seat. They also located several partially burnt hand-rolled marijuana cigarettes.

Deshaun Shields

Zion Williams was later identified as Deshaun Shields, 26, of South Bend, who was wanted on multiple warrants in Indiana and Ohio.

Shields was detained. Shields told police Goins had his identification and debit card in her bra.

Shields faces additional charges of identity deception, providing false information, and possession of marijuana.

Goins was also arrested.

While at the jail Goins admitted to having more marijuana in her pants.

Goins faces charges of obstruction of justice, false informing, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The vehicle was inventoried and towed by Mikel’s Wrecker Service.
