Single-vehicle accident claims a man’s life and leaves two with serious injuries

INDIANA – A single vehicle crash has claimed a man’s life and left two others seriously injured. This morning, around 5:15 a crash occurred on the ramp from southbound I-465 to Washington Street on the city’s westside.

When troopers arrived personnel from the Wayne Township Fire Department, along with Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, were on scene and had provided aid for the three injured adult occupants of the vehicle. One of the occupants was pronounced deceased at the scene, the other two were transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

Preliminary investigation determined an SUV was southbound on I-465 approaching the ramp to Washington Street. The driver failed to navigate the curve in the ramp, continued straight through a grassy ditch, hit the embankment for the onramp and became airborne. The vehicle then landed on the other side of the onramp, overturned and came to rest upside down. It is believed at least two of the occupants, including the deceased male, were ejected from the vehicle. Indiana State Police Crash Reconstructionists were called to the scene to assist with the investigation.

This investigation is ongoing, and test results for impairment are pending. The ramp from Washington Street to I-465 southbound was closed for approximately six hours while the crash was investigated. The Marion County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and recovered the remains of the deceased.
