Obituary: Vernetta Kay Hillenburg

January 2, 1939 – August 23, 2022

Vernetta Kay Hillenburg, 83, of Heltonville passed away on Tuesday August 23, 2022 at 10:25 a.m. at her home.

She was born in Lawrence County on January 2, 1939 to Everett Murphy and Lena (Blackwell) Murphy. She married Morris D. Hillenburg on July 1, 1956 and he survives. Vernetta worked at RCA-Thomson Consumer Electronics in Bloomington and was a member of the Burgoon Baptist Church, she loved gardening, flowers and her family.

Survivors include her husband, Morris D. Hillenburg, three children, Dwight (Ronda) Hillenburg, Ronda Donica and Retta (Dennis) Spencer, grandchildren, Mandy Harris, Marie (Charlie) Covey, Nathan (Shelia) Hillenburg and Micah (Chase) Lively, great-grandchildren, Audrey (Zach) Davis, Ashley (Roy) Covey, James Covey, Emilie Hillenburg, Dale Hillenburg, Anngelina Harris and Aleizabeth Hillenburg, great-great-grandchildren, Aubree Edwards, Tripton Davis and Lailyn Davis, two sisters, Verla Todd and Shirley Smith, one brother, Fred (Diane) Murphy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Lena Murphy, two brothers, Randall Murphy and Roy Murphy, two brother-in-law’s, Richard Todd and Bud Smith.

Funeral services will be held on Friday August 26, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Burgoon Baptist Church on State Road 446, burial will follow in Gilgal Cemetery in Heltonville, with Brother Harold Godsey, officiating, visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m..
