BEDFORD – Two men were arrested Wednesday after a Bedford Police officer stopped a vehicle Wednesday night.
According to a probable cause affidavit at 11:46 p.m. the officer was on patrol in the area of 14th and I streets when he observed a black Jeep traveling north on I Street.
The vehicle was traveling 43 miles per hour in a 30-mile-per-hour speed zone.
The vehicle then turned left onto 7th Street and the officer initiated a traffic stop.
The driver was identified as 44-year-old Shawn Dearborn, of Bedford and the passenger was identified as 37-year-old Brandon Ashley, of Michigan City.
The officers said Ashley was “taking short, shallow breaths and his hand was shaking” as he handed the office his identification.
Police said both men’s driver’s licenses were suspended
Dearborn was detained on a charge of driving while his driver’s license was suspended. He was also wanted on a civil warrant.
Officers then asked consent to search the vehicle.
In Ashley’s pocket officer found a plastic baggie containing crystal meth. Officers then noticed he was “clinching”, which indicated Ashley may be concealing additional drugs. Ashley was found to have another baggie of crystal meth concealed between his buttocks that weighed 5.64 grams.
