Lawrence County Council announces the hiring of new council attorney

LAWRENCE COUNTY – The Lawrence County Council announced the hiring of the new Council Attorney during their regular meeting Tuesday evening.

Katie Simon

After countless interviews and decision-making, the board voted to approve Katie Simon, an associate attorney at Scott Callahan Attorney at Law P.C. Simon practices in the area of personal injury, wrongful death, criminal defense, family law, nursing law, and wills and estate law. The proposed salary for Simon will be $18,000 per year with no benefits.

Before joining Scott Callahan Attorney at Law P.C. in November 2018, Katie was a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in Lawrence County from 2014-2018. As a Deputy Prosecutor, Katie handled and participated in thousands of criminal cases and investigations. During this time, Katie gained tremendous knowledge and experience overseeing all Lawrence County cases involving operating while intoxicated, driving offenses, driver’s license issues, and expungements.

The council voted to approve the hiring of Katie Simon 5-0, with council member Janie Chenault abstaining from the vote. Chenault made the recommendation for the hiring of Ted Johnson for council attorney, which died on the floor for a lack of a second vote.
