Bloomington man who was pulled from the vehicle dies in hospital

BLOOMINGTON – A Bloomington man died Wednesday after he crashed his vehicle and the vehicle caught fire at the intersection of South Clairzz Boulevard and East Moore’s Pike.

Those who witnessed the accident that happened at 4:50 p.m. rushed to the man trapped inside the car and pulled him to safety. They administered first aid until first responders arrived on the scene.

Witnesses told police the driver, 49-year-old Ryan Hill, of the white 2018 Nissan Altima Hill was traveling east on Moores Pike when the vehicle began swerving and then drove off the south side of the road. The car hit a pedestrian crossing signal, an apartment complex sign, and then a tree.

“While en route, dispatch advised responding officers that the driver of the vehicle was reportedly unresponsive and that the car had caught on fire. At that point, bystanders pulled the driver from the vehicle and began CPR,” said Bloomington Police Department Ryan Pedigo.

Hill died six hours later at IU Health-Bloomington Hospital. An autopsy will be done to determine what caused Hill’s death.
