JASONVILLE – Further investigation by Indiana State Police Investigators and a review by the Greene County Prosecutor, Jarrod D. Holtsclaw, have revealed additional facts about the officer-involved shooting that occurred in Jasonville, on April 29, 2022.

Prosecutor Holtsclaw has provided the following, Greene County Prosecutor Official Statement.

This completes the investigation by Indiana State Police Detectives and there will not be any further information available for release.

The investigation began after a request by the Jasonville Police Department.

The Indiana State Police Bloomington District was called to investigate an incident that led to an officer-involved shooting in Jasonville on Friday, April 29th.

As officers made contact with Stephen Scott Wheeler, who was holding a knife, Wheeler purportedly refused commands to drop the weapon and lunged toward the Jasonville Police Chief Ryan Van Horn.

State police say Chief Van Horn fired at least one shot at Wheeler, hitting him.

Wheeler was taken to the hospital with “potentially” life-threatening injuries. Nobody else was hurt. Wheeler died from a single gunshot wound to his chest.
