Arrest made after Bedford man fire shots

BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested Sunday night after a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputy responded to a call of a man firing shots at another person on South Leatherwood Road.

Before police arrived they were alerted Sommer had left the home in a silver Kia Optima and was traveling west on South Leatherwood Road toward Tunnelton Road. While officers attempted to stop the vehicle, another officer responded to the residence.

When police arrived they found a spent shell in the driveway of the home. A male stated to the police he was in the shower when his wife alerted him that Sommer called and made verbal threats to include that he was going to come to the home. While getting dressed the male heard a gunshot outside. He witnessed Sommer fire a second shot at another male, This male was now dating Sommer’s ex-girlfriend.

Sommer was told to leave and that is when he pointed the gun at the male witness. 

Police say nothing was damaged by the gunfire and no one was injured.

Police were unable to locate Sommer and officers forwarded the information to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office. A warrant was issued for Sommer’s arrest on charges of criminal recklessness, intimidation, and pointing a firearm.
