Traffic stop for speeding results in heroin arrest of the passenger

BEDFORD – A Mitchell man was arrested after a Bedford police officer stopped a vehicle for speeding on M Street.

The vehicle pulled over in the Dunn Plaza parking lot.

The officer said the female driver and her passenger, 30-year-old Tyler Sturgill, of Mitchell, appeared nervous.

The officer asked the driver why she was so nervous and she said, “I just get nervous with cops”.

Both the driver and Sturgill were asked to exit the vehicle.

In Sturgill’s pocket, the officer found syringes and a baggie containing heroin, a metal spoon, and a cut blue straw.

Sturgill was arrested on charges of possession of a narcotic drug, unlawful possession of a syringe, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The driver was given a warning for speeding and released from the scene.
