Men’s Warming Shelter to host a cookout to celebrate successful first season

BEDFORD – The Men’s Warming Shelter is inviting the community to celebrate a fantastic season by hosting a cook out celebration on Thursday, March 31st from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. located at 1414 H St.

Everyone is welcome for great food, music, friends and fellowship with the warming shelter staff, volunteers, and guests.

After housing 20 men over the winter season, the first in their new location on H Street, the group wants to share the success with the community while continuing to work on making the shelter better, something that Men’s Warming Shelter Director Heather Flynn is planning on.

“We are excited to be near the end of the season after housing 20 people, some that we were able to help through addiction recovery, with needed documents, medical care, government benefits, and jobs has been a true blessing,” said Flynn. “It could not have been done without our volunteers and those who work with the group, but also the men we were able to serve. It was a group effort.”

The cookout is open to everyone who wants to come by the shelter to meet with the residents and socialize, while also eating great food. Hotdogs, hamburgers, and great desserts on top of other items will all be available for free to those who want to stop by.

“This is a great way to show off what has been done so far and will be a great transition into our plans to renovate the building for the next season. There is a lot of work to be done still, but we are excited about the next season,” Flynn said.
