Self check out skip scanning leads to arrest of Harrodsburg woman

BEDFORD – A Harrodsburg woman was arrested on a theft charge after Bedford Police officers were called to Walmart.

Shayla Young

According to Asset Protection Associates, 26-year-old Shayla Young was captured on video ringing up socks, then wadding up a sweat suit and bagging it without scanning it.  She was also seen bagging other items without scanning them.

Store officials say the total amount paid by Young was $69.88 and the total retail value of the theft was $76.65.

Young was stopped by store officials and police were summoned to the store.

Young told the officers she was scanning the items “too fast” and must have “accidentally missed items”.

Police say Young has a prior theft conviction from 2018.

She was arrested and during a search of her person police located a glass smoking device containing marijuana residue and a grinder. She was then transported to jail.
