Piglet perishes in a garage fire

LEESVILLE – Firefighters battled a large garage fire in the 600 block of Standish Steel Road Saturday night.

Firefighters from Shawswick and Pleasant Run Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the fire at 7:40 p.m. at the home of Kyle Yost.

When firefighters arrived they found the barn engulfed in flames. The fire had spread to trees but firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to a nearby home.

According to Shawswick VFD Chief Bobby Brown, the fire was caused by a heat lamp that was being used to keep a piglet warm. The piglet perished in the blaze.

Firefighters were on the scene until 10 p.m.

No one was injured while battling the blaze. An IU Lifeline ambulance also was on the scene.
