Man barricades himself in garage armed with a shotgun in Daviess County

CANNELBURG – On Thursday, March 10th Daviess County Sheriff Gary Allison reports a law enforcement incident occurred at a residence on County Road 900 East, south of Cannelburg.

At approximately 6:56 a.m. Daviess County Central Dispatch received a 911 call from a female requesting a welfare check on her father. She advised her 80-year-old father who suffers from dementia and is a cancer patient and had armed himself with a shotgun.

Daviess County Sheriff Deputies responded to the residence and found the subject had barricaded himself in a detached garage. Deputies attempted to speak to the man who then fired on deputies.

Officers deployed a canister of CS gas as a deterrent and the subject fired upon the Deputies again. After continually attempting to make contact with the male, he drove his vehicle through a closed garage door and collided with a deputy’s patrol vehicle which stopped the male from fleeing the scene.

The male was taken into custody without further incident and transported by ambulance to Daviess Community Hospital for a medical evaluation and treatment.

Daviess County Sheriff’s Office is sending a report to the Daviess County Prosecutor Office and Daviess Circuit Court to enact the Red Flag Law and seized the male’s weapons.

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana State Police
and the Daviess County Ambulance Service.
