City of Mitchell approves request street closures for 75th annual Persimmon Festival

MITCHELL – Preparations for the 75th annual Persimmon festival took its first steps Monday night after the Mitchell City Council approved the necessary street closures for the event.

The affected streets include:

Full Closure from midnight on September 17th through 3:00 a.m. on September 25th:

  • 6th Street from Warren Street to Main Street; Main Street to Mississippi Avenue
  • 7th Street from Main Street to Mississippi Avenue

Limited access from midnight September 18th to midnight of September 25th:

  • Main Street from 5th Street to 8th Street

Close at 1:00-4:00 p.m. September 24th for the Grand Parade:

  • Main Street from 1st Street to 8th Street
  • 7th Street from Main Street to Warren Street
  • Warren Street from 7th Street to 8th Street
  • 8th Street from Warren Street to Hancock Avenue
Grand Parade Street closures

The Persimmon Festival begins with The Persimmon Market, Emergency Equipment Day, and the Candlelight Tour Saturday, September 18th, 2021. The Market will be at the Mitchell Community Building and the EED will be at the Mitchell City Pool area. The Candlelight Tour is held at Spring Mill State Park Village from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

No downtown events will be held until Monday, September 20th. All food trucks, stage acts, rides and the Business Expo will start Monday, September 20th on Main Street in Mitchell from 5th street to 8th street.

The Grand Parade will be held on Saturday, September 25th starting at 2:00 p.m.
