Bedford Veteran Les Saunders celebrates 100th birthday

BEDFORD – Battle of the Bulge Veteran, and Bedford native, Lester “Les” Saunders celebrated his 100th birthday Sunday afternoon with family, friends, and everyone who knew him.

Although his birthday is officially Wednesday, March 9th, Les was able to get out and celebrate the momentous occasion at the Wilson Park shelter house.

According to Les, the secret to his longevity is eating good food and making the right choices.

“I married a good cook who fed me well, and I avoided using anything I shouldn’t take part in. I never smoked, I never drank but I did what I wanted to do,” said Saunders.

Members of the community were invited to join in the celebration with a man they have known for so long, and Les wouldn’t want it any other way.

“I welcome them all. Many of them I have known for many years, taking care of their cars and things that I was able to. I may not remember their names, but I remember their faces.
