Bedford woman arrested after stealing scratch-off lottery tickets from Circle K

BEDFORD – A Bedford woman was arrested Thursday when a warrant was issued for her arrest after she allegedly stole lottery tickets on Feb 6, 2022, from the Circle K gas station located at 729 16th Street.

Kathleen Dalton

The manager reported the store was short $330 of Hoosier Lottery tickets. The manager then began reviewing security footage and found 34-year-old Kathleen Dalton, who was an employee, stealing a stack of the Premium Play scratch-off tickets from the back office. The tickets are valued at $10 each and 33 tickets were taken.

The video shows Dalton in the back office, pulling a stack of scratch-off tickets out of the bundle that was on the desk and then attempting to conceal them under her jacket that she had placed on the desk. Kathleen then picks up the jacket, leaves the office, and returns again placing the jacket on the desk. Later in the video, Dalton is removing items from her purse and putting them back in an attempt to make space. Kathleen then grabs the stack of scratch-off tickets from under her jacket, folds them in half, and stuffs them inside her purse.

The manager says Dalton is then captured on video cashing a $20 winning Premium Play scratch-off ticket at the store.

The manager then contacted Hoosier Lottery investigators and they conducted an investigation which was given to police. The investigator’s report confirmed that Dalton had stolen the tickets. The report stated that the tickets taken were numbered “000 – 032”. The ticket that was cashed on Feb. 6, 20220 was ticket number 001. On Feb. 7, 2022, Dalton cashed tickets 014 ($70), 009 ($20), and 008 ($10) while working behind the counter. The investigator was also able to determine that additional tickets were cashed at Dairyland on Lincoln Avenue. Dalton was captured on security video making the transactions. The tickets cashed were 004 ($10), 031 ($20), 013 ($50), 024 ($10), 020 ($10), 021 ($0), 018 ($0), 019 ($0), 022 ($0), 017 ($0) totaling $100.

The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office and a warrant was issued for Dalton’s arrest.
