Two Bedford Police Officers recognized for their efforts with Officer of the Year Awards

BEDFORD – The Bedford Police Department announced Monday afternoon the winners of the 2020 and 2021 Officer of the Year awards to Officer Robert Looney and Officer Clay Blackburn.

This annual award is based on evaluations on knowledge of work, quality of work, initiative, dependability, interpersonal skills, attitude, attendance, and appearance. Both officers were awarded for their hard work and continued dedication to the City of Bedford.

Officer Looney, the recipient of the 2021 Officer of the Year Award, has been with the Bedford Police Department since June of 2018 and has continued to exemplify what it means to be the Officer of the Year.

“We have several officers that could have easily won this award. When we look at which officers to give the award to, it comes down to multiple different avenues,” said Police Chief Terry Moore. I like to include the Officer of the Month awards as well, and Officer Looney had won that award on three separate occasions. That is what ultimately led me to awarding Officer Looney as he met all the criteria as well as the Officer of the Month Awards.”

Officer Blackburn, the recipient of the 2020 Officer of the Year Award, was given his plaque commemorating the event last year but had to wait for the special gift from Chief Moore, and with presenting the award to Officer Looney, they took the time to give Officer Blackburn his personalized Microtech knife. Officer Blackburn has been with the Bedford Police since December of 2018.
