Mitchell man receives 804-day prison sentence

BEDFORD – Lawrence Superior Court II Judge Bob Cline sentenced a Mitchell man to 804 days in the Indiana Department of Correction after the man failed to comply with the terms of his probation.

Charles D. Riggs, 46, pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, and he was sentenced to 910 days in prison, with 804 of those days suspended to probation, as a part of a negotiated plea agreement with the State of Indiana in November. He failed to follow the terms of his probation, and on Thursday, the judge ordered him to serve out those 804 days that were originally suspended to probation in the Indiana Department of Correction.

“Judge Cline issued the prison sentence after he carefully considered the defendant’s extensive criminal history and current behavior patterns,” said Lawrence County Prosecutor Samuel C. Arp II. “We believe the Judge issued the appropriate sentence for an offender who was given the opportunity to change his habits, but chose not to participate in the terms set forth as a part of the probation.”
