Oolitic Middle School consolidation motion died on the floor due to lack of motion

NLCS

BEDFORD – After a lengthy discussion over the decision to close Oolitic Middle School and send 7th and 8th-grade students to Bedford Middle School, the motion died on the floor due to a lack of second motion and the board will continue to look into the matter further.

The 167 students currently enrolled at the middle school will have to wait a bit longer on where they will attend school in the 2022-2023 academic year, as the board has no set date to determine the consolidation at this time.

Board members during the February 22 meeting

The public comment section featured resident Scott King who told the board that there is no clear plan of consolidation before it can be implemented, and would require a 7-0 vote.

In regards to the Oolitic 7th & 8th graders moving to BMS, the board took no action on the recommendation and did not pass a motion to table it. Therefore, no future date for a vote has been determined at this time, and the board will continue to look into the issue moving forward.
