HANCOCK CO. – On Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at approximately 3:36 p.m., emergency responders were called to the scene of a single-vehicle crash on I-70 westbound near the 112-mile marker near Greenfield.
The Greenfield Fire Department responded and located a semi-tractor trailer off the right side of the roadway in the ditch. The driver was unconscious and unresponsive, paramedics administered life-saving efforts, however, 54-year-old Scott Brandenburg of Clarksville, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A passenger, who was in the sleeper berth at the time suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Investigators determined Brandenburg was driving westbound on I-70 when for unknown reasons he drove off the road to the left, across the median and into the eastbound lanes, then back across the grass median, across the westbound lanes, and into the ditch on the right side of the road.
The right lane of I-70 westbound was closed for nearly seven hours while the crash was investigated and the damaged semi was removed. The investigation is ongoing and there is no further information to release.
