Lafayette woman arrested after pursuit

TIPPECANOE CO. – Saturday around 5:20 p.m., Indiana State Police Trooper  Francisco Miramontes was patrolling north on US 52 near County Road 700 South. Trooper Miramontes attempted to catch a 2018 Dodge Durango driven by 40-year-old Monetta Sanders, 40, of Lafayette for traveling south on US 52 at 102 mph in a 60 mph zone.

As Trooper Miramontes was attempting to catch the vehicle, he radioed to other officers working in the area.

As Sanders continued traveling south at a high rate of speed, she passed two other troopers that began to pursue her. Sanders continued south on US 52 towards State Road 47. Sanders then turned west on State Road 47, where a Thorntown Police Officer had tire deflation devices placed across the road. Sanders stopped before hitting the tire deflation devices and was safely taken into custody.

The second occupant in the vehicle was transported from the scene and released. Sanders was transported to Tippecanoe County Jail on charges of resisting arrest with a vehicle, aggressive driving, and reckless driving.

Trooper Miramontes was assisted on scene by Trooper Decker, Trooper McQueary, Thorntown Police Department, Boone County Sheriff’s Office, and Zores Towing.
