Constance “Connie” Ann Mathis

Constance Ann “Connie” Mathis, 86, of Bedford, passed away at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at Garden Villa in Bedford.

Born May 27, 1935, in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Tony and Thelma (Hillenburg) Rogers. She married Frank David Stansbury in 1954 and he preceded her in death in 1982. She later married James Mathis and he also preceded her in death. She retired from RCA after 28 years and was a member of the Tabernacle of Praise Church. She loved spending time with her grandchildren (they were her pride and joy). She was an avid gardener and enjoyed working in her yard. Connie taught Sunday School and worked in the tape ministry for many years at the First Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and needlework.

Survivors include a son, David Stansbury, and wife, Joni, of Bedford; two grandchildren, Kyle Stansbury, of Bedford and Kandace Lecocq and husband, Anthony, of Baltimore, MD; 1 great-grandchild, Saja Lecocq; three sisters, Lana Chenault and Linda Tumey of Bedford and Carolyn Beal of Bloomington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, two brothers, Kenneth and James Rogers; a sister, Eldena Lagle.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 3 rd in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Gary Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 2nd at the Day & Carter Mortuary. The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions in Connie’s memory to the Tabernacle of Praise Church.
