Still time to donate your items to the Town of Oolitic for Kentucky tornado victims

OOLITIC – The town of Oolitic is working on gathering more items to go to the victims of the tornado that wreaked havoc in Mayfield, Kentucky over the weekend of December 10th.

Donations are still being accepted at Oolitic Town Hall until Friday December 17th by 4:00 p.m., before leaving to deliver the items at 4:30 p.m.

The items that are being collected and donated for this cause will go directly to families and individuals in need of services, without going through a third party.

Town of Oolitic Utilities Clerk, Carla Roberts, said that outpouring of love and donations from community members have been overwhelming.

“The idea started with the fact that we have friends down in Mayfield who are still in need of supplies and assistance,” said Roberts. “It’s an honor to have had such an amazing outpouring of love and support, and with the current amount of items that have been gathered together, we have had to rent a van just to be able to haul everything. I can not thank everyone enough.”

Items that are of need include:

  • Baby wipes
  • Diapers
  • Baby food
  • Food that doesn’t require electricity (granola bars, etc.)
  • Blankets
  • Toiletries
  • Gently used or new clothing
  • Water
  • Batteries
  • and socks

The town of Oolitic would like to thank community members, Clerk-Treasurer Annette Norrick, Heidi at Oolitic Hair Company and her clients for their help, Oolitic Kiwanis, Jon Jeffries, Paul Endris, Marilyn & Benny Kimmel, Bedford Enterprise, and Scott Dunlap with Utility Supply Company, among the many others who have come together to help in this time of need.
