Alma A. (Holmes) Jones

September 7, 1931 – November 19, 2021

Alma A. (Holmes) Jones, 90, of Bedford, passed away on Friday, November 19, 2021, at Westview Nursing and Rehab.

Born September 7, 1931, in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Harley and Jenny (Robertson) Holmes. She married Samuel E. “Gene” Jones on September 18, 2008, and he survives. She retired as a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service. She grew up in the Avoca Baptist Church and was a member of the Fayetteville Baptist Church. She loved her family, her church, and her music.

Survivors include her husband, Gene, of Bedford; a daughter, Jill VanTine, of Avoca; daughters-in-law, Patty Bex and her husband Bob, of Bedford and Martha Turner, of Bloomington; step-children, Mike Jones and wife, Nancy, of Troy, MI, Kimberly Romanchik and husband, Jim, of Independence, OH; grandchildren, Angela Chase, Jaden Borden, Kristin Lintz, Roz Turner, Graham Jones, Aaron Jones, Kelsey Jones, Andrew Romanchik, Emma Franchino; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Ashley Chase, Lauren Hillenburg, Garrett Turner, Henry Jones, Braden Smith, and Blaine Lintz; great-great-grandchildren, Mason Hillenburg and Hadlei Smith; step-great-great grandchildren, Corrie Flynn and B.J. Lintz; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Fred Turner and their children, Tim and Steve Turner; her second husband, Art Ray; her third husband, Cletus Waggoner; grandsons, Matthew S. Turner, Ryan Ward, Jacob, and Jared Borden; two sisters, Imogene Kursner and Little Donna; a brother, Clayton Holmes.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 22nd in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor David Ferry officiating, who will have a special reading written by her Pastor, Kenneth Walden. Burial will follow in Hilltop Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Monday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
