Positive identity of body released from fire fatality

JUDAH – The identity of 63-year-old Michael Olan Miller, was released following an autopsy performed on Friday.

“The male was positively identified, but the female could not be, so we are waiting on DNA results,” said Lawrence County Sheriff Mike Branham “We have no reason to believe that they are anyone other than the residents.”

Police believe the female is 62-year-old Bonney Sue Miller.

Both died in an early morning house fire on November 9, 2021, at 251 Briarwood Lane. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Firefighters rushed to the scene after Lawrence County Central Dispatch received a report of a structure fire at 6:40 a.m. The caller stated that he lives at an adjacent property and as he was warming up his car, he noticed flames coming from the residence.

Firefighters from Marshall Township, Monroe Fire Protection District, and Oolitic Volunteer Fire Department responded along with an IU Health Lifeline ambulance crew and Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department detectives.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control within an hour.

According to Sheriff Mike Branham, the bodies of the Millers were found inside the residence. Both were unable to be immediately identified due to the extent of their injuries.
