Two injured after Amish buggy rear-ended by a vehicle

MITCHELL – Two people were injured after their buggy was struck in the rear on State Road 60 East at 6:45 a.m. this morning.

According to a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department report, 74-year-old Ronald Higdon, of Orleans, was traveling west on State Road 60 East and approached the rear of the Amish buggy. Higdon told officers he didn’t see the buggy and struck the buggy.

The collision destroyed the buggy.

The driver of the buggy, 19-year-old Henry Troyer, of Mitchell, suffered a head injury but refused medical treatment. His passenger 21-year-old Susan Hershberger was thrown from the buggy and suffered severe head injuries. She was flown by a medical helicopter from the scene. There is no update on her condition at this time.
