Head-on collision injures two teens

GREENE CO. – Greene County Sheriff’s Department deputies worked an injury accident Friday on State Road 57 at the Newberry bridge.

According to police the Mark Hampton, of Tennyson, was traveling south on State Road 57, north of Newberry in a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado when he lost control of the vehicle on the bridge. The car traveled across the center line and struck a 2014 Dodge Avenger driven by 17-year-old Madison Pilant, of Newberry, head-on. 

Both Pilant and her passenger 17-year-old Savannah Vanhentenryck, were transported by a Greene County ambulance to Greene County General Hospital for treatment.

The roadway was closed from 5:45 p.m. until  7:25 p.m. while officers worked the accident.

Assisting at the scene were Greene County Ambulance, Newberry Fire Department and Bill’s Auto Towing.
