Town of Oolitic suffers massive water leak, repairs underway

OOLITIC – The Town of Oolitic is making repairs to two water leaks discovered last night.

According to town officials in an announcement this morning, “After several reviews of the water mains last night, including shutting off water to the town … for several minutes … the leak was narrowed down to the two mains, one 6″ and one 8″, that feed Rolling Acres and runs under 37. At approximately 3 a.m. this morning the leak was discovered to be in the 8″ line that runs from 2nd Street under 37, across Goose Creek & into the back yard of the Neely’s on Vista Drive,” according to Jon Broglin Town Council member.

Repair work will commence this morning, please take note there will be minimal to no water pressure throughout Oolitic for the next several hours.

“Hats off to Bedford Water Works for helping to find the leak as well as monitoring the flow/gallons used to narrow down the search area.” said Broglin.

According to town officials as of midnight, it had been metered that 400,000 gallons had passed through this leak.  On an average day Oolitic will use between 70,000 to 100,000 gallons of water.
