Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department have volunteer opportunities

BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington Park and Recreation Department have the following volunteer opportunities for the month of September.

Leonard Springs Nature Days

If you have an interest in the outdoors and enjoy working with children, sign up for our Leonard Springs Nature Days. Volunteer as a station facilitator to teach area sixth-grade students about various natural resources including karst, creeks, wetlands, and forests. There is also the option to serve as a group leader, helping guide the groups of students from station to station.

The volunteer shifts are from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on September 7, 14, 21, and 28. Twenty volunteers are needed each day.

Splash & Glow Party

The spray pad at Switchyard Park is aglow for a nighttime dance party for kids! Enjoy a romp through the pray pad, plus the “Firefly Find”—a glow-in-the-dark egg hunt throughout the park.

Volunteers are needed to help stuff and hide eggs throughout the park, as well as provide general event support on Thursday, September 16. Volunteers can be 16 years old and up. Four volunteers are needed for the event.

Glow in the Park

Light up the night this glow-in-the-dark dance party at Waldron, Hill, and Buskirk Park! Decorate yourself in glow paint while busting out your best dance moves to music from DJ Maddog.

Volunteers are needed to help with general event support, supervise activities, and help with the check-in table on Saturday, September 18. Volunteers can be 16 years old and up. Twelve volunteers are needed for the event.

Bird Fest

Visitors enjoy an interactive and educational celebration of bird biology, ecology, and conservation. Come learn all about birds and their value to our local ecosystem.

Volunteers are needed to supervise craft areas, staff information tables, and assist with check-in on Saturday, September 18. Volunteers must be 18 years old or older. Twenty volunteers are needed.

50+ Expo


The 50+ Expo is the local premier showcase of businesses and organizations whose products and services are geared toward baby boomers, seniors, and caregivers.

Volunteers are needed to assist event setup and teardown, as well as staff the welcome table on Wednesday, September 22. Volunteers can be 16 years old and up. Ten volunteers are needed.
