I-65 added travel lanes project moving to phase three, expect overnight lane closures

BARTHOLOMEW CO. – Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Force Construction Company will have overnight lane closures on I-65 in Bartholomew County this week and will be changing the lane configuration between mile marker (MM) 64 and 68 later this month.

The left lane of southbound I-65 will be closed during the hours of 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. between MM 64 and 68 tonight through the end of next week for concrete paving operations. Lane closures will not be needed every night, but motorists should be prepared as the schedule is weather and equipment-dependent.

In addition, an overnight lane closure is planned for Saturday, August 7 on I-65 northbound at MM 64.5 to repair a construction zone unit that was struck by a vehicle. The closure will start around 3 a.m. and last approximately two hours.

Beginning on or around Saturday, August 21, the lane configuration on this stretch of I-65 will be switched to phase three. Currently, northbound traffic is in the normal configuration and southbound traffic is shifted to the right to use the existing outside shoulder and right lane. For phase three, southbound traffic will stay in its current alignment, but both northbound lanes will crossover to the southbound side and utilize the new lanes installed during phase two.

The $65 million added travel lanes contract is expected to be complete in 2023. Motorists are reminded to slow down, use extra caution, and drive distraction-free in and near all work zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
