Troopers make multiple arrests this weekend

OWEN CO. – On Friday at approximately 12:40 p.m., an Indiana State trooper located an individual with an active warrant driving in Spencer.

With the assistance of the Spencer Police Department and Owen County Sheriff’s Department, they conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle at the intersection of Morgan and Fletcher avenues in front of a local restaurant.

The two male occupants of the vehicle were detained after police learned they were both wanted on active warrants.

The men were traveling with a juvenile who was released to the Department of Child Services to await for their family to arrive. Further investigation by a trooper and his partner Czar resulted in locating controlled substances and paraphernalia. 

Both men were arrested and transported to the Owen County Jail.

Police arrested 47-year-old Jeremy Burch, of Newburgh, on charges of possession of meth, unlawful possession of a syringe, possession of marijuana with a prior conviction, and possession of drug paraphernalia, and 49-year-old Frederick Qualkenbush, of Newburgh on charges of possession of meth and drug paraphernalia and marijuana and driving while his driver’s license was suspended.

On Saturday afternoon at approximately 2:15 p.m., a trooper responded to the area of 2000 block of North County Line Road after a report of two individuals slumped over inside a vehicle. Upon arrival, the trooper and Owen County EMS found the two men were asleep inside the vehicle.

The men were identified as 54-year-old Danny Slaybaugh, of Indianapolis and 55-year-old James Carr, of Bainbridge.

Police learned Carr was wanted on two active warrants in Monroe County.

With the assistance of Owen County canine Chewy officers located controlled substances and hypodermic syringes within the vehicle and in the men’s possession. Both men were arrested and transported to the Owen County Jail.

Carr faces charges of unlawful possession of a syringe, trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana with a prior conviction, and false informing.

Slaybaugh faces charges of unlawful possession of a syringe, trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana with a prior conviction, and driving while his driver’s license was suspended.
