297 students enrolled in LCIS as of Thursday

FAYETTEVILLE – The Lawrence County Independent Schools’ first day of school is August 10th. A total of 297 students are enrolled in the new charter school.

Classrooms are ready for students at the Fayetteville Campus of LCIS

Openings remain available in all grades, especially in the third grade, if anyone is interested in enrolling their child.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 9, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. at the Fayetteville campus is scheduled.

Masks will be required for all students riding on school buses and are optional for students in the building. Anyone with additional questions can contact the school.

The final pick-up times for students at various destinations throughout Lawrence County have not been finalized at this time. When those are made, parents and guardians will be notified. Students are expected to be at the bus stop prior to the pick-up time.

In other businesses:

  • Approved entering into a Food2School COOP for cafeteria food purchases. By entering into this contract this will allow the school to be able to have improved purchasing power.
  • Approved moving the December meeting to December 21, 2021 due to vacations during the Christmas holiday.
  • Chris Scott with Limestone Capital Volleyball Club addressed the board regarding the fomation of a 5th and 6th Grade volleyball program, along with Middle School students.
  • Brenda Mescher with Education One updated the board on the Accountablilty Plan. The school will be evaluated throughout the school year in three areas, performance, finances, and organizational performance.
  • A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 6:00 p.m. on August 9th, with the Mascot “Storm” from Trine University on hand to greet the students.
  • A meet your teacher event is planned for August 9, 2021.
  • There will be several events planned throughout the year at LCIS.
  • LCIS thanked several contractors for their assistance in the preparation of opening day. School officials report they are ready for the first day of school. There are a few items officials still need to address, but will not effect the students or the opening of the school. TNG Construction, WeatherMasters and Dayton Heating and Cooling were among some of the contractors mentioned during the meeting.
