Case dropped against a woman in Bloomington hit-and-run case

BLOOMINGTON – Prosecutors have dropped their case against an Indiana woman who was charged in a hit-and-run crash during a Bloomington protest last summer because she passed away in Colorado earlier this year.

Christi Jane Bennett

Police say 67-year-old Christi Jane Bennett was found dead in a Denver hotel room on February 6, 2021.

Bennett allegedly struck two pedestrians on July 6, 2020, during the protest on Walnut Street in Bloomington. She was arrested on July 8, 2020, at a motel in Scottsburg.

Bennet was charged with two counts of criminal recklessness and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident, one resulting in bodily injury and one resulting in serious bodily injury.

Monroe County prosecutor Erika Oliphant confirmed that the county dropped its case against Bennett on July 6 after learning she had passed away.
