Bedford woman arrested after crashing into a parked car

BEDFORD – A Bedford woman was arrested Tuesday night after officers were called to the 320 block of 16th Street after a report that a vehicle had struck a parked car.

The caller told police she believed the other driver was intoxicated.

While en route the driver of a gray Ford Escape involved in the accident fled the scene and was traveling west on 17th Street and had turned south onto D Street

The caller was able to get the vehicle’s license plate number.

Other officers searched the area for the fleeing driver.

Cara Strunk

Dispatch ran the plate provided and it returned to a red 2016 Ford Escape registered to 44-year-old Cara Strunk who lives in the 1610 block of C Street.

Police found the gray Ford Escape parked in the driveway of Strunk’s home. The vehicle had struck the garage of the residence.

Officers found paint from the other vehicle on the bumper of the Ford Escape.

Strunk told police her husband had struck the garage with the vehicle. She denied being involved in an accident on 16th Street.

Officers say Strunk was intoxicated and unsteady on her feet, but she denied drinking anything.

She failed standardized field sobriety tests. Strunk was taken to the station and administered a chemical breath test. She blew a 0.217.

Strunk was taken to IU Health Hospital for a medical evaluation and then arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, OWI, OWI endangerment, and leaving the scene of an accident.
