The proposed location for Men’s Warming Shelter moves on to public hearing

BEDFORD – The Bedford Plan Commission forward the proposal to a public hearing for a new location for the Men’s Warming Shelter.

1414 H Street proposed new location for Men’s Warming Shelter

Tim Thompson, with Stone City Alliance for Recover and Hope ( SARAH) appeared before the commission to answer questions. The property is located at 1414 H Street which is in the old Jerry Arthur Paving business building.

The property is currently zoned B-2 Central Business District and requires a special exception permit for boarding and housing.

Last year, the Men’s Warming Shelter averaged 12- 15 men a night who took advantage of the shelter during the winter months.

The group also provides other services including job placement to be able to assist those in finding permanent housing.

Plan Commission members Angel Hawkins and Craig Turpen abstained from the vote, Steve Kimbley was not present and it passed 4- 0.
