Mitchell Police find meth while conducting welfare check, two arrests made

MITCHELL – Two people were arrested after Mitchell Police officers were called to the 160 block of Dale Street after a report an elderly man was being held against his will Tuesday night.

When officers arrived at 9:59 p.m. they spoke to 22-year-old Allihah Benefiel and asked if the elderly man was inside. Officers entered the home and found the male in one of the bedrooms. In another bedroom, there were two males and two females who officers said appeared to be nervous. All four of the bedroom occupants refused to speak to the officers.

Ronald Goodman

Police say 44-year-old Ronald Goodman who was sitting on the floor, attempted to conceal an unknown item. The officer then noticed a glass smoking device with a crystal rock of meth on top of a stool next to Goodman.

Goodman was detained. In his pocket, the officer found a syringe that tested positive for meth.

Goodman was arrested on charges of possession of meth and unlawful possession of a syringe. 

Officers also found a pill container with drug content which was comprised of of 0.55 grams of meth and suboxone.

Benefiel then told the officer the syringe Goodman was holding was hers. 

She was then arrested on charges of possession of meth and unlawful possession of a syringe. She then admitted the syringe belonged to both of them.

Police spoke to the elderly man and he denied being held against his will.
