BARTHOLOMEW CO. — The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana State Police are investigating an accident that left a 15-year-old male from Columbus dead after a vehicle was struck by a semi on I-65 early Saturday morning.
According to investigators, 15-year-old Ethan Kuniewicz of Columbus was pronounced dead on the scene by Deputy County Coroner Charlie Deweese.
Deputies responded to the accident that was reported just before 5:20 a.m. about three miles south of Edinburgh. They believe Kuniwewicz was traveling north on I-65 when the minivan ran off the road into the median. Witnesses told investigators it appears that Kuniewicz tried to cross the southbound traffic when he was hit by the semi.
I-65 was shut down for about three hours.
