Seat belt violation leads to the discovery of drugs and syringes

CLAY CO. – On Monday, May 24, at approximately 5:50 p.m., an Indiana State Police trooper was patrolling on Interstate 70 near the 19-mile marker, when he stopped a 1997 Ford pickup truck for the driver failing to wear a seatbelt and failing to display a registration plate. 

The driver was 29-year-old Jon D. Pastorius, of Brazil, Indiana.

The trooper suspected criminal activity and canine Barker alerted police to possible drugs in the vehicle.

During the vehicle search troopers discovered meth and 43 syringes. 

A driver’s license check revealed that Pastorius was also a habitual traffic violator. 

Pastorius was arrested and taken to the Clay County Jail where he is currently being detained on charges of possession of meth, unlawful possession of syringes, being a habitual traffic violation, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
