Boy injured after hit by a vehicle

BEDFORD – A Bedford boy was injured after being hit by a vehicle at 16th and O streets Wednesday afternoon.

According to a Bedford Police report, another Bedford Police officer witnessed the accident and said 12-year-old Cyrus Brown, did not have the crosswalk sign and the crossing guard did not have the intersection blocked for Brown to cross the street in the crosswalk.

Brown also told the investigating officer he ran across the intersection without the signal or the crossing guard shutting down the intersection for him.

According to police, 33-year-old Alicia Phillips was traveling south on O Street in a 2016 Chevrolet Traverse from Bedford Middle School. She was following the traffic when suddenly the child ran in front of her vehicle. Phillips told police she stopped as quickly as possible but the child collided with her vehicle.

Phillips was not injured and there was no damage to her vehicle.

Brown suffered abrasions to his elbow and lower arm. Brown told officers he was not hurting and would be fine before an ambulance arrived on the scene.

Bedford Middle School employees made contact with Brown’s mother who responded to the scene.

An IU Health Hospital also responded and Brown was transported to IU Health Hospital for a medical evaluation.
