OOLITIC – Brenda Corey was appointed vice president of the Oolitic Town Council Monday evening during the council meeting.
The town council approved the request of Steve and Joni Hayworth to build a porch on the back of their residence, but the couple must first obtain a building permit.
The council approved Clerk-Treasurer Annette Norrick and her assistant Susie Bass to attend a training session to help with reporting requirements to the Indiana State Board of Accounts. The council allotted $1,000 for the training.
A contract with Utility Services who services the water treatment facility was approved by the Council members.
Council members also approved an upgrade to the town hall’s computer system. The old system is no longer being provided by Keystone. The town has switched to Key Fund and will require some training on the new program.
Residents were then allowed to voice concerns:
- Marilyn Crouch addressed the council about speeding concerns on Hall Avenue. Town Marshal Jon Jefferies stated they will provide extra patrol to the area.
- Jim Jenkins asked about the old Oolitic School. Councilman Johnny Dillon said he will be speaking with Mr. Stark about the future of the building.
- Jenkins also asked about how to stop speeding vehicles on Vista Drive.
- Phil and Susie Dixon wanted to discuss road conditions in front of their home on Hoosier Avenue. The section of road is not in the jurisdiction of the town and the matter is being looked into further. That section of the roadway is Lawrence County highway jurisdiction.
