Commissioners Grant Duke Energy Right of Way

(BEDFORD) – The Lawrence County Commissioners voted to deed 8/10ths of an acre of land along 22nd to 24th streets to the City of Bedford.

The City of Bedford will then deed that land to Duke Energy to help power a portion of the City of Bedford.

The land is part of the Old Monon railroad that is no longer in use.

“This is considered lost land,” said County Surveyor Cory Allen. “We (the county) takes jurisdiction of lost land. This land butts up against Mitchell Road.”

Allen told the commissioners the county receives no tax money for this land and it will not cost the county anything to deed it to the City of Bedford. The City of Bedford will then deed the easement to Duke Energy.
